100 years ago today

One hundred years ago today one of the greatest tragedy happened in the labor industry. It was the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire that killed 146 garment workers. Most of the workers were women between sixteen and twenty-three. The workers could not escape because the managers had locked the doors and stairways.  Many of the people jumped from the eighth, ninth, and tenth floor windows. People down below thought what they saw falling was garments in till they saw that it was the young women jumping.
After this happened there were certain safety standards enforced by Union to make sure this would never happen again. For example one of the things that they enforced were that there would be sprinkler systems put in buildings. This is just one safety standards that Unions have made possible for everyone.

Right now in Missouri is trying to pass a "Right to Work" for less law and changing the Child Labor Laws. This is something that we can not let happen. If these laws pass it would just be a matter of time before all the safety standards are changed. Everything that the Unions have fought for over the years to get everyone are thrown out the window. We all must fought to keep what standards we have and not give any ground to the GOP here and around the Nation that are try pass laws the would bust Unions.
