I have a question for you, how do you feel about the earning tax in Kansas City?
I know that some of you don't really like it. I was one of those people, I have to admit, but once I looked into it a little bit more I realized how important it is. This tax has been around since 1963. The tax started out at half of a percent and was raise to 1% in 1970. The Earning Tax makes up 38% of the general fund. It also only applies to wages and salaries, not to social security, pensions or investment income. Without the earning tax KC will be required to drastically reduce police and fire protections, ambulance and other services. The essential services such as maintenance for the streets and snow removal, parks, boulevards, community centers and public health will be cut severely. By necessity, trash collection and recycling would become fee-based. Funding for many arts, cultural, environmental neighborhood and social service programs would be eliminated. So think about if you get hurt on the job or you are out at Power and Light and are needing to be rushed to the hospital by ambulance. If the tax does not pass it would take a lot longer for the ambulance to get there. It would also take more time for the cops to get there if you get robbed. Or? They might even tell you to come to the station to file a report. Property taxes and sales taxes would all go up to make up the difference for the Earning tax. Right now these two taxes makes up about 20% of the general fund. So remember votes YES ON APRIL 5 FOR THE E-TAX
